Onka Six (Rogaine)
September 28
If you haven’t yet seen the Onkaparinga Gorge, now is the time! It is an extremely picturesque area, in part reminiscent of the Flinders Ranges with its folded rocks and gorgeous gum trees. There will be carpets of wildflowers to ooh and aah over, the river is stunning for those who venture down to the water, and there are even multiple waterholes to swim in if the navigation gets too hard… (or maybe that’s part of the navigation…)
We’ve purposely made a 3-hour event for families, just so they don’t miss out on this spectacular area. While it’s a wilder area than metropolitan streets, the track network is easily navigated with littlies – but leave the pushers at home. The tracks along the gorge rim provide great views and are not too strenuous. And if you’re lucky, you might spot an echidna or kangaroo.
For those who are not afraid to venture down into the gorge, high points will be your reward – plus stunning views of the river. Be prepared for much rock hopping! And to add an element of excitement to the event, the 6-hour competitors will need torches for the final couple of hours.
Enjoy a hearty hot soup with roll after the event, along with some cake, while you compare tales of your exploits down in the gorge with your fellow competitors.
