TRSA On the Trails Race 1: Kuitpo
June 2
Travel through the ancient lands of the Kaurna and Peramangk peoples in Kuitpo Forest, near Meadows in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Established in 1898, as the first of a number of forest plantations in the area, it was developed to ensure a sustainable timber resource for South Australia.
The reserve covers an area of 3,600 hectares, which includes plantation and native bushland. It is managed for sustainable commercial forestry, while also providing for the conservation of native flora and fauna and community use for recreation.
You will run through an amazing mix of scenic pine plantations and native bush. You will enjoy wide forestry roads mixed with some single tracks.
Don’t forget to look up as you traverse through the towering trees, breathe in the scent of the pines and keep a sharp lookout for the pixies dancing under the Amanita muscaria (bright red mushrooms).
Kuitpo Forest is situated in the South Mount Lofty Ranges, 45 minutes’ drive from Adelaide, near the township of Meadows.
